Collection: Nagaland Collection

Nagaland is a mountainous state, situated in an extremely remote area of the North East Indian State of Assam & Burma. It has been closed off to outsiders for decades. Only special permit holders are allowed to enter.

There are believed to be around 22 000 surviving Naga people, originating from 16 different Tribes, each with their own unique cultures, traditions, and languages.

One of these traditions is that they are head hunters. When a man marries, he and his clan set out on a head hunt. It is a tradition that been passed down for centuries. Due to the tribe’s secrecy and isolation, no one really knows if this tradition continues today.

The area in which Nagaland is located is a very dangerous one, with treacherous and unpredictable roads and pathways.

For these reasons, and more, it is extremely difficult to procure pieces out of this area. The unique pieces that are created out of Nagaland are not just décor or furniture but is a representation of the tribe’s life stories and experiences.
